Atlus announces four games coming to the west in late 2017 and 2018.
The publisher plans to release Vanillaware’s 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology, and Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux between Fall 2017 and 2018.
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a departure for Vanillaware’s traditional fantasy style. George Kamitani, director of Dragon’s Crown and Odin Sphere, also takes the helm of Aegis Rim. The game is set in a more modern space populated with giant mechs. Regardless of setting and tone, Vanillaware’s unmistakable art style will shine through.
Not much else has been revealed about the game including a firm release window or platforms.
Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth – 3DS – Fall 2017
Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth tells the quest of a new adventurer as he/she attempts to scale the Yggdrasil Tree to have their greatest wish fulfilled. The fifth main installment of the Etrian Oydssey series once again tasks players with filling out their own map as they progress through the Yggdrasil Labyrinth.
As you explore the Yggdrasil Labyrinth you’ll have to make constant choices about how to approach battles and explore dungeons. The game’s turn-based combat is back along with the dangerous FOEs roaming the maps.
To master the labyrinth you’ll need to have the right party composition to unleash powerful Union attacks. To aid your progress character customization has been expanded with four unique races and ten distinct classes.
Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology – 3DS – Early 2018
Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology chronicles the story of Alistel operative Stocke as he gains the power of the White Chronicle relic and learns to travel between two alternate timelines. Stocke will need to right the wrongs of the past in order to prevent the destruction of his world with the aid of his new power.
Perfect Chronology is an expanded port of the 2011 Nintendo DS title. It adds in redesigned character art, new voice-overs, a new opening animation, new theme songs, five new songs, event illustrations, two modes: Append and Perfect, and additional difficulty settings for new and old fans alike. Perfect Chronology also includes new story content in the form a new character called Nemesia who teaches Stocke about his world’s history and unlocks a third timeline.
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux – 3DS – Early 2018
In Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux a spatial distortion full of demons appears in Antarctica and threatens to engulf the Earth. The United Nations responds to the threat by sending a team of specialists to pierce the anomaly and find out how to stop it. Strange Journey Redux is an expanded port of the 2010 Nintendo DS original.
Strange Journey Redux brings new story content, a brand new character named Alex, new demons, additional endings, a new dungeon, new illustrations by Masayuki Doi, updated visuals, UI tweaks, and even more.
All of these games appear at Atlus and Sega’s E3 booth, West Hall, Booth #4312, in some form.
We’re always excited for whatever Atlus brings over to the West, but this is an exciting portfolio of games. 3DS JRPG fans are in for a bounty of new games over the course of the next year. Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology seems particularly noteworthy.
The big gem of the announcements is 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim even if information is sparse. Any new Vanillaware is a treat. While we don’t know much, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is set to release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in Japan. It is safe to assume it’ll appear on PS4 in the West, at least. Although it is important to note, Atlus has been good about bringing over Vita versions to the West as well. So there is some hope for Vita owners.
